Introduction
In Islam, Allah (God) has commanded His servants to worship Him alone, as He created them for this purpose. The foundation of worship lies in the concept of tawheed (monotheism), which emphasizes the oneness of Allah. The name "Al-Wahid" signifies this concept and highlights the uniqueness and incomparability of Allah
I. The Concept of "Al-Wahid" in the Qur'an
Allah's creation for worship: Allah created jinn and humans solely for the purpose of worshiping Him (Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:56)
Proclaiming the oneness of Allah: The Qur'an emphasizes that Allah is the only God (Surah Ibrahim 14:52) and there is no deity except Him (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:163)
II. References to "Al-Wahid" in the Qur'an and Sunnah
Qur'anic references: Allah is described as "Al-Wahid" and "Al-Qahhar" (The One, The Subduer) (Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:16). The chapter of Al-Ikhlas highlights the oneness of Allah (Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:1)
Prophetic traditions: Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would often recite the supplication, "There is no god but Allah, the One, the Subduer, Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, the Mighty, the Forgiving." Furthermore, a companion of the Prophet sought forgiveness by invoking the name "Al-Wahid Al-Ahad Al-Samad" (The One, The Unique, The Eternal) and received assurance of forgiveness from the Prophet (peace be upon him)
:III. The Evidence of Reason and Creation for the Oneness of Allah
Observing the intricate design, order, and harmony of the universe, one can deduce that it is the creation of a single, unique, and self-sufficient Creator. Whether it is the precision of celestial bodies, the organized behavior of insects, or the migration of birds, everything in nature points to the fact that there is only one Creator without any partners
Conclusion
By embracing the concept of "Al-Wahid," believers attain the most fruitful rewards and blessings. Their hearts unite in devotion to the One God, seeking His pleasure alone. Unlike those who associate partners with Allah, believers find tranquility and guidance in their worship, experiencing the unity of heart and purpose that comes with the acknowledgment of Allah's oneness
The Fruits of Faith in the Oneness of God
Among the fruits of faith in the Oneness of God are steadfastness in the face of adversity and trials, and the absence of fear from anyone other than Allah (Exalted and Glorious). As long as this universe has one God without any partners, and He alone holds the reins of all affairs, how can a servant fear or revere anyone else? Thus, you find that the believer in the Oneness of Allah (Exalted is He) remains firm and steadfast on the truth sought by Allah, like a towering mountain that is not shaken by tribulations or calamities, as long as it is for the sake of Allah. His constant state is expressed by the following verse: "Say, 'Indeed, I will never be harmed except by Allah's permission. And if I should perceive a thing, I could not perceive it except that it is willed by Allah.'" (Quran 10:49)
Indeed, you can see this steadfastness on the truth manifesting in the words of the leader of monotheists, Muhammad (peace be upon him), when the people of Quraysh tried to persuade him to deviate from the truth. He responded to them with a question: "Do you see this sun?" They said, "Yes." He said, "I cannot give up this [religion] even if you were to give me the sun in my right hand." Similarly, it is inconceivable for someone who believes in the Oneness of Allah to be shaken by anything
When these blessings and fruits come together, their greatest outcome is entry into Paradise by the virtue of the declaration of faith. It was narrated by Ubada bin As-Samit that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever testifies that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partners, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, and that Jesus is the servant and Messenger of Allah and His Word which He bestowed upon Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him, and that Paradise is true, and Hellfire is true, Allah will admit him into Paradise regardless of his deeds." Likewise, Mu'adh bin Jabal reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever's last words are: 'There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah,' shall enter Paradise
The obligations of a Muslim towards the name of Allah, the One
The obligations of a Muslim towards the Oneness of Allah (Exalted is He) and His name "Al-Wahid" (the One) are numerous. Some of them can be summarized as follows
Sacrificing in order to preserve the Oneness of Allah on Earth: Just as the best generation, the generation of the pure companions, sacrificed for this purpose, such as Bilal ibn Rabah who was thrown into the scorching heat of midday on burning sand and had a heavy rock placed on him to renounce the declaration of faith, but he only responded with the words "Ahad, Ahad" (One, One). Similarly, Ammar ibn Yasir was tortured and his parents were killed, yet he did not utter anything except a statement that his heart denied. Habib ibn 'Adi had his flesh cut off by the people of Makkah to make him associate partners with the false prophet, but he preferred death over that. Khubayb ibn 'Adi was crucified by the people of Makkah, yet he continued to utter words that dripped with sacrifice and steadfastness
Fighting against any form of associating partners with Allah (Exalted is He): The Muslim is0 protective of the position of
