  Abdullah's meeting with the Messenger

He, may God be pleased with him, says about his first meeting with the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him: “I was a young boy tending the sheep of Uqba bin Abi Muait, so the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and Abu Bakr came and said: “O boy, do you have milk to give us water?” I said: “I am trusted, and I am not your cupbearer.” The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Do you have a barren sheep on which the stallion has not descended?” I said: “Yes.” So I brought it to them, so the Prophet arrested her and wiped the udder and prayed to his Lord, so he covered the udder, then Abu Bakr brought him a concave rock, so he milked it, so Abu Bakr drank, then I drank, then he said to the udder: “Slash,” so it shrank, so I came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace after that, and I said: “Teach me Who said this?” He said: “You are a teacher’s boy”

Islam Abdullah bin Masoud

Abdullah bin Masoud was one of the forerunners in Islam, so he is the sixth person to convert to Islam. He emigrated to Abyssinia and Medina, and he witnessed the Battle of Badr and the scenes with the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him

He was slender in body and slender in leg, but strong faith in God pushed his owner to good morals. The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, testified to him that his fine leg was heavier in God’s scale than Mount Uhud, and the Messenger, peace and blessings of God be upon him, gave him glad tidings of Paradise

The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, commanded Ibn Masoud to climb a tree and ordered him to bring him something from it. The companions of the Messenger of God - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - looked at his leg when he climbed, and they laughed at the hummus of his leg. The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Why are you laughing? A man, Abdullah, will be heavier in the scale on the Day of Resurrection than Uhud

Ibn Masoud recited the Qur'an aloud

The first person to recite the Holy Qur’an aloud at the Kaaba after the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, was Abdullah bin Masoud, may God be pleased with him. One day the companions of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, gathered and said: “By God, the Quraysh have never heard this Qur’an recited to them aloud, so who can make them hear them?” Abdullah bin Masoud said: “I am,” and they said: “We fear them for you, but we want a man who has a clan that will prevent him from the people if they want him.” He said: “Leave me, for God will prevent me.” God is at the station, and he said, raising his voice: “God, the Compassionate, the Merciful, the Compassionate, taught the Qur’an, created man, taught him the statement.” So he received it and recited it, so they meditated, so they began to say what Ibn Umm Abd said, then they said: “He is to recite some of what Muhammad brought.” So they stood up and made They beat him in the face, and he began to recite until he reached as much of it as God willed it to be. !” They said: “It is enough for you that you have made them hear what they dislike”

Memorizing the Qur'an

The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, ordered Abdullah bin Masoud to recite to him, so he said: “Recite to me.” He said: “O Messenger of God, should I recite to you and to you when it was revealed?” And peace be upon him said: “I would love to hear it from someone else.” Ibn Masoud said, so I read to him from Surat Al-Nisa’ until I reached the Almighty’s saying: How about if we bring from every nation a witness and bring you as a witness against them? Ibn Masoud was one of the scholars of the Companions, may God be pleased with them, and masterful memorizers of the Noble Qur’an. In him, his knowledge and virtue spread throughout the horizons with the large number of his companions and those who learned from him who learned from him and grew up. God, peace be upon him, said: “Explore the Qur’an from four from Abdullah bin Masoud, Salim, the mawla of Abi Hudhayfah, Ubayy bin Ka’b, and Moaz bin Jabal,” as he used to say: “Whoever loves to hear the Qur’an fresh as it was revealed, let him hear it from Ibn Umm Abd”

It was said to the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him: “I have appointed a successor,” and he said: “If I appoint a successor over you and you disobey my successor, you will be punished”

And when Othman bin Affan took his Mushaf from Abdullah and forced him to take the Mushaf of the imam who had ordered it to be written, the Muslims panicked at Abdullah and said: “We did not come to you as visitors, but we came when this news frightened us.” He said: “The Qur’an was revealed to your Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, from seven chapters.” It is on seven letters, and that the book before you was revealed - or was revealed - from one chapter on one letter, and their meaning is one

Ibn Masoud's closeness to the Messenger

The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “If I were to entrust someone without the consultation of the Muslims, I would have commanded Ibn Umm Abd,” as he was given what was not given to anyone else when the Messenger said to him: “Your permission is upon me to lift the veil.” So he had the right to knock on the door of the Noble Messenger at any time of the night or day, saying Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari: “I have seen the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and I only see Ibn Masoud from his family”

The position of Ibn Masoud among the companions

The Commander of the Faithful, Umar, said about him: “He is full of jurisprudence.” Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari said: “Do not ask us about anything as long as this scholar is among you.” Hudhaifa says about him: “I do not know anyone closer to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, than Ibn Umm Abd”

A group of the Companions gathered at Ali Ibn Abi Talib’s house and said to him: “O Commander of the Faithful, we have not seen a man who was better in morals, gentler in education, better sitting, and more pious than Abdullah Ibn Masoud.” Ali said: “I implore you by God. ?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “Oh God, I make you witness, O God, I say about it like what they said, or better

Devout Abdullah bin Masoud

What Ibn Masoud, may God be pleased with him, feared most was that he would narrate something from the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and he would change a thing or a letter. On his tongue: The Messenger of God said, So the anguish caused him until I saw the sweat descending from his forehead, then he said reflexively: Close to this the Messenger said. The wisdom of Abdullah bin Masoud

Abdullah bin Masoud had a great ability to express and look deeply at things, as he says about what we call the relativity of time: “Your Lord has neither night nor day. Something from the work of this world and not the work of the Hereafter.” Among his comprehensive words: “The best of riches is self-sufficiency, the best of provision is piety, the worst of blindness is the blindness of the heart, the greatest of sins is lying, the worst of usury earnings, and the worst of food is the money of an orphan, and whoever pardons God forgives him, and whoever forgives God forgives.” for him"

And Abdullah bin Masoud said: “If the people of knowledge preserved knowledge and placed it with its people, they would have dominated the people of their time, but they placed it with the people of the world to gain from their world, so they were easy on them. Worries divided him about the conditions of the world. God did not care in which valley he perished

Ibn Masoud says: “I got up in the middle of the night while I was with the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, in the Battle of Tabuk, and I saw a flame of fire in the direction of the military, so I followed it looking at it. And the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, is in his pit, and Abu Bakr and Umar lead him to him, and the Messenger says: Bring your brother closer to me, and he brought him to him

The people of Kufa

The Commander of the Faithful, Umar, entrusted him with the treasury of the Muslims in Kufa, and he said to its people when he sent it to them: “I, by God, who there is no god but He, have preferred it to you over myself, so take from it and learn.” And the people of Kufa loved him with a love that no one had achieved before him until they said to him when the caliph wanted Uthman Ibn Affan dismissed him from Kufa: “Stay with us and do not go out, and we will prevent you from getting something you hate from him.” But he replied: “I have to obey him, and that there will be matters and strife, and I do not like to be the first to open its doors”

Abdullah bin Masoud's illness

Anas bin Malik said: We visited Abdullah bin Masoud to visit him during his illness, so we said: “How did you become Abu Abd al-Rahman?” He said: “We have become, by the grace of God, brothers.” We said: “How do you find you, Aba Abd al-Rahman?” He said: “I find my heart at ease with faith.” We said to him: “What are you complaining about, Abu Abd al-Rahman?” He said: “I complain about my sins and mistakes.” We said: “What do you desire for anything?” He said: “I desire God’s forgiveness and His pleasure.” We said: “Should we not call a doctor for you?” He said: “The doctor made me sick.” In another narration, the doctor sent me what you see. During his period, he said: “Write down for him what happened during his period.” I am crying that the disease befell me during this period, and I wish that he was in an effort on my part

Will of Abdullah bin Masoud

When death approached Abdullah bin Masoud, he called his son and said: “O Abd al-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Masoud, I advise you to do five things, so keep them from me: show despair to people, for that is rich and virtuous, and leave the demand of people’s needs, for that is present poverty. What he apologizes for in matters, and do not act upon it, and if you are able to not come to a day when you are better than yesterday, then do so, and if you pray a prayer, pray a farewell prayer, as if you do not pray after it

A man met Ibn Masoud, and he said: Do not be a dreamer, remembering, I saw you yesterday, and I saw the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, on a high platform, and you were below him, and he was saying: “Oh Ibn Masoud, come to me, for you have dried up after me.” Abdullah said: “By God, have you seen him?” He said: “Yes.” He said: “So I decided that you should leave Madinah so that you can pray for me.” It was only a few days later that he died, and the man witnessed the prayer for him

The death of Abdullah bin Masoud

At the end of the age of Abdullah bin Masoud, may God be pleased with him, he came to Medina for its inhabitants the best prayers and completed the delivery, and he died in the year thirty-two AH at the end of the caliphate of Othman, may God be pleased with him, and on the authority of Ibn Umm Abd and his mother, two companions of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and made them his two companions in Paradise with the immortals
