Othman bin Mazun witnessed the Battle of Badr with the Prophet Muhammad.

Othman bin Mazun was one of the people who was most diligent in worship. He fasted during the day and prayed at night, avoided desires, and kept away from women. He asked the Prophet Muhammad for permission to be celibate and to be castrated, so he forbade him from that. The Prophet said to him: “Do you not have a good example in me, for I have sex with women and I eat meat?” I fast and break my fast. The castration of my nation is fasting, and none of my nation is castrated or castrated.” Ibn Mazun was also one of those who forbade alcohol for himself in pre-Islamic times.
